Yesterday, I went with a friend to Alcázar de San Juan because he had to attend an event there for one hour, so we spent the day visiting the city and the surroundings. This city is quite known nowadays because it is a railway junction and many trains stop there.
Alcázar de San Juan, which lies exactly in the middle of La Mancha, is a small town (30,000 inhabitants) which claims to be Cervantes’ birthplace (but there are some arguments in favour of this, although it is generally accepted that he was born in Alcalá de Henares, a town near Madrid)
It hasn’t got much to see, but anyone who has read “Don Quixote” (not my case, I must admit it) can probably relate to this area as the scenario of the adventures and misadventures of this hidalgo: huge plains, not many towns, lots of windmills (the giants), “El Toboso” (the town where Dulcinea lived)… Nice for a day trip.

Spring officially starts today, and the almond trees are also aware of that and have already flourished.
